Life Story Changers

Getting it Done! . . . In 15 Minutes!

Getting it Done! In 15 Minutes!  Are you kidding me?

I know what you are saying – what the heck can I get done of anything in 15 minutes?

I’ll grant you it is a very small period of time but if you think about it, when you are focused, set the timer and go for it, you can get a lot done.

Let’s name just a few things for Getting It Done

  1. dust a room
  2. write 3 paragraphs
  3. clean a bathroom
  4. make a 5 ingredient dinner
  5. read a book to your child
  6. exercise or yoga
  7. brainstorm for your next vacation

Now that wasn’t so bad, was it.  You have probably done it many times already today.

So when it comes to your goals and dream, why not break them done into bite size chunks as well.  We have this BIG idea that our goals and accomplishments will flow through our minds and into reality very easily and smoothly.  Now I’m not saying that when all the pieces are in place that won’t happen.  I’m just saying that to get started we may need to just carve out those 15 minute periods of time for yourselves to get some motion for our goals and dreams.

Carving in the Time For Getting It Done

We all have 24 hours in a day.  We work around a lot of schedules – school, work, lunch schedules, evenings, vacation.  I know that it’s hard to imagine adding one more thing in.  So why not start with 15 minutes!  For that first session – release the brainstorm already taking up space in your head. Get a piece of paper and start writing down those ideas, concepts, goals and other thoughts.  There taking up space in your head for a reason – they’re important to you.  Great – No problem!   Putting them on paper gives them a place to live for now.  Why keep pushing into the background or off into the future?

I live a busy life and so do you.  But I sometimes think that as long as we keep telling ourselves that we are really busy, we believe it.  When we believe that, we now think we have no time for the fun stuff, right.  Or we then get overwhelmed and some of us shut down.  That will never get you or me where we want to be either?  Having an honest chat with yourself might reveal some hidden issues that you can let go of.

Evaluate our current habits, do they mean enough to us, to keep at them.  Maybe we can even stop the activities that do not serve us or our purpose.

Maybe for you, like me,  it is a selection of people that keep shutting you down.  So depending who they are, you might need to carve a special place and time when they are not going inhibit your process.  For other people, you will release them, and interact only occasionally.

I’m Ready to Start for Getting It Done

I’m so proud of you. Here is what you need to get started.

  1. Find that space where you can have your 15 minutes of peace.
  2. I recommend, writing down 3 goals that you have to start with
  3. Label them 1, 2, 3 for importance or what you’d like to do immediately.
  4. Draw in pictures the ideas and goals you have.  Or go collect the pictures of that you represent your end goal.  Start with the end in mind and work backward.
  5. Stop the worry about the “HOW” right now.  These steps are not about that at all!
  6. Isn’t this exciting and I almost feel the thoughts turn in your head.

There you have a few 15-minute ideas for getting it done! Now these are just the beginning, but I think you can see how this is going to come about.

Set the timer and only work on this for 15 minutes at a time. Can you see how this is going to work for you?  I know that you will get excited about this process and you will be carving out more time in the near future.  For now, 15-minutes is all that you need.  I think you can start today – right!

So for me taking that 15-minute slot of time and doing this activity was very liberating. It’s about what I want for me, and what you want for you.  What do you want your life to really look like and then you work towards that goal or idea.

So you see, Getting it Done in 15-minutes is not that big a deal!  Tell me how it went for you.
